Abstract
The increasing societal demand, particularly in Kembaran Subdistrict, for time efficiency has driven the growing interest in laundry services. The rapid growth of higher education institutions and the fast-paced lifestyle of modern society have created promising business opportunities in the laundry service sector. However, the substandard quality of services, particularly concerning clothing damage, has emerged as a major issue frequently reported by consumers. This study aims to analyze the legal protection available to consumers against clothing damage caused by kilo-based laundry services in Kembaran Subdistrict, Banyumas Regency, and to identify the factors hindering consumer legal protection in this context. The research employs an empirical juridical method, with data analyzed qualitatively in a descriptive manner using primary data sources. The findings indicate that legal protection for consumers of laundry services in Kembaran Subdistrict has not been fully implemented, as many laundry businesses fail to meet consumer rights and take full responsibility for damages. The obstacles to consumer legal protection can be categorized into two factors: Internal Factors: These include a lack of legal awareness among consumers, reluctance to report issues, insufficient evidence, and limited knowledge about consumer protection institutions. External Factors: These encompass a lack of public knowledge, weak law enforcement, insufficiently comprehensive regulations, inadequate information dissemination, and ineffective dispute resolution processes.
