Abstract
Background: Based on WHO data in 2013, diarrhea is Indonesia's second
cause of under-five children mortality. The patient can obtain the
appropriate therapeutic effect in treatment therapy to cure the disease
successfully. However, it is undeniable that there are errors in treatment
therapy called Drug Related Problems (DRPs). This study aims to
determine drug use patterns and evaluate the incidence of DRPs in
pediatric patients who experience diarrhea at the Serayu Larangan
Purbalingga Health Center from January 2021-December 2022. Method:
The method used in this research is observational (nonexperimental), with
data collection retrospective through medical records. Results: Based on
32 patients who met the inclusion criteria showed that the pattern of drug
use in pediatric diarrhea patients used first-line therapy for rehydration,
such as Ringer's lactate, Dextrose 5%, and Oralit, Zinc to reduce the
duration and severity of diarrhea, accompanied by supportive therapy to
treat other symptoms. There were occurrences of DRPs in the overdose
category 14,29%, underdose 31,75%, inappropriate drug selection in 20
patients 11,11%, indications without therapy 1,06% and found no DRPs in
the therapy without indications, drug side effects, and drug interactions.
Conclusion: The pattern of use of diarrhea drugs in pediatric patients at
the Serayu Larangan Health Center in Purbalingga uses rehydration
therapy, zinc, and supportive therapy to treat symptoms. There are DRPs
with categories of overdoses, underdoses, inaccuracies in drug selection,
and indications without therapy.
