Abstract

Background: Acute diarrhea is still a major problem for children's health in the
world as well as in Indonesia. Usually occurs in children aged 0-4 years (11.5%).
The administration of antibiotics for the treatment of acute diarrhea is still
relatively high (97.6%). The purpose of this study was to determine the evaluation
of antibiotic use in pediatric patients with acute diarrheal disease in the pediatric
ward of RSUD dr. Soeselo Slawi, Tegal Regency. Method: This study is
descriptive research. Data collection was carried out retrospectively using the
Purposive sampling method. The antibiotic evaluation method uses a
Gyssens flow chart. Results: Of the 198 cases obtained, the most cases occurred
in men (57.1%) and at the age of 1-4 years (60.6%). The most widely used type of
antibiotic is ceftriaxone (44%). The evaluation results using the Gyssens method
were obtained category 0 (22,5%), category IIB (34,7%), category IIA (20,1%),
category IIIB (13,5%), category IIIA (3,1%), and category IVA (5,9%).
Conclusion: The prescribing of antibiotics in acute diarrhea pediatric patients in
the pediatric ward of RSUD dr. Soeselo Slawi Tegal Regency is not
appropriate/rational.
