The purpose of this research was to create a product of English reading
materials for eight-grade students and assess the appropriateness of the product.
This research used Research and Development and applied the ADDIE model by
Branch (2009). Several steps were included in the research design; Analysis, Design,
Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research was conducted at
SMP PGRI Purwareja Klampok. Students in the eighth grade and an English teacher
served as the research's subject. An English teacher was interviewed and a
questionnaire was given to the students in order to gather the data. A questionnaire
and interview guidelines served as the research tools. Both descriptive statistics and
descriptive analysis were used to examine the data. This research produced
supplementary material for English reading recount texts. The suitability of the
learning materials was evaluated in terms of their presentation, language, content,
and arrangement. The created English reading recount text material was assessed
by two specialists. The product’s presentation, language used, and content were all
rated as “good”. The average scores of 3.0 for the content, 3.16 for language use,
and 3.75 for presentation- all falling within the 2.5 ≤ x ≤ 3.24 interval- indicate this.
Next, the layout aspect was classified as “very good” with a mean value of “ 3.8”,
falling within the range of 3.25 < x ≤ 4. There were two meetings for the field test.
Immediately following the completion of the field exam, the students were
evaluated. The outcome showed that students were generally happy with the way
the product was develop.
