Abstract

Difficulty in reading the Al-Qur'an is a challenge for teachers in the
learning process, because with every learning activity there will be obstacles
experienced by students in learning. Learning activities will not always run
smoothly, because in teaching and learning activities we will find problems that
occur, especially in the classroom. Based on this, the problem experienced by
students is difficulty reading the Al-Qur'an, because learning to read the Al-
Qur'an is not as easy as learning in general. Teachers as educators must prepare
strategies or efforts to overcome these problems, besides that, teachers must also
know what the supporting and inhibiting factors are in overcoming this problem.
The aim of this research is to determine the teacher's strategy in improving the
ability to read the Al-Qur'an and to determine the factors that support and hinder
the teacher's strategy in improving the ability to read the Al-Qur'an in class VII
MTs Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
This research is a type of field research using observation, interview and
documentation data collection techniques. The intended research subjects were
the school principal, Al-Qur'an teacher and 3 students who were already fluent in
reading the Al-Qur'an and who were still in the Iqro stage. To carry out data
analysis techniques, researchers carry out data reduction, data presentation and
conclusion drawing.
The research results show. 1. The teacher's strategy in improving
students' ability to read the Al-Qur'an is to hold a Tahsin program, carry out
routine activities of reading the Al-Qur'an or Iqra when learning hours have not
yet started, provide motivation to students, give rewards or prizes to students ,
Making the rules of the Koran as a graduation requirement. 2. The obstacle
factors experienced by teachers when guiding students who are not yet fluent in
reading the Al-Qur'an are a feeling of laziness in students, the teacher's role is not
optimal, difficulties in memorizing the Al-Qur'an in students. Meanwhile, the
supporting factors are providing a special approach to students so that they feel
comfortable in learning, providing motivation and advice in the form of, teachers
must develop sincere and patient intentions in providing teaching. 3. Knowing the
program or method used by teachers when teaching students to read Al -Qur'an
and Iqra, namely using the Al-Qur'an, Iqra and Tahsin methods.
