Abstract
Background: Number of births in Indonesia according to Basic Health Research
2018 reached 79,3%. Central Java has a number of births via caesarean section
(SC) of 17,1% and vaginal of 82,9%. The problem with postpartum is causes mild
to severe pain. Controlling pain in vaginal delivery and SC patients is using
analgesic drugs. To determine the effectiveness of analgesic, look at the
comparison of pain intensity values in vaginal delivery and SC using VAS (visual
analog scale). The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of
analgesic drugs in vaginal delivery and SC seen from the VAS scores at Cilacap
General Hospital from February-April 2024. Method: This is a non-experimental
study with a descriptive observational design. The data of this prospective study
involve 60 childbirth women were obtained from their medical records, while the
pain was assessed with VAS. Data were analyzed with microsoft excel and SPSS.
Results: The most used analgesic in vaginal delivery are lidocaine injection and
mefenamic acid tablets, while in SC are ketorolac injection and mefenamic acid
tablets. Effectiveness and rationality for analgesic in postpartum patients is
appropriate with p value (0,000<0,05). The results of the rationality correlation
test and the Δ VAS value are 1,000 and the direction correlation (+). Conclusion:
The rational use of analgesic drugs in vaginal delivery and SC is effective in
reducing pain intensity as seen from the VAS score.
