Abstract

This research aimed to determine the correlation between overprotective
parental behavior and the level of independence of children attending Al
Ishlah Kindergarten. The research methods were a quantitative approach and
correlation analysis. The population included 34 children attending Al Ishlah
Kindergarten. Purposive sampling was used to select a sample of 18 children
from group A. Data collection methods consisted of distributing
questionnaires and using observation sheets. The collected data were then
analyzed using SPSS version 25 software. The research findings indicated a
correlation between parental and overprotective behaviors toward child
independence. It was demonstrated by the hypothesis testing results using the
Independent Sample t-test, which yielded a two-tailed significance value of
0.000. The null hypothesis was rejected if the two-tailed p-value was less than
the significance level of 0.05. The table above discovered that the valid value
was below 0.05. The value of 0.000 was less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be
concluded that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and the alternative
hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, indicating a significant and substantial effect of
overprotective parental behavior on child independence. It is also supported
by interview results with parents, which concluded that they were overly
worried about their children's situations that might not necessarily be
dangerous.
