Abstract

This study aims to enhance the speaking participation of fifth-grade
students at SD Negeri 1 Mrebet in Indonesian language lessons by employing
the role-playing method with the assistance of educational videos. The
research follows a classroom action research (CAR) design, targeting fifthgrade
students at SD Negeri 1 Mrebet, located in the Mrebet district, for the
academic year 2023/2024. The subjects of this study include 18 fifth-grade
students and their classroom teachers in the second semester of the 2023/2024
academic year. Data collection tools utilized in this research comprise
observation sheets, interviews, , and documentation. The study adopts the
Kemmis and McTaggart model, which involves two cycles. Each cycle
includes phases of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The findings
indicate that the role-playing method, supported by educational videos in
Indonesian language lessons, significantly enhances the speaking
participation of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Mrebet. This conclusion is
based on the increased student participation from the first to the second cycle,
achieving the desired target of 60% of total student engagement.
