Abstract

Initial reading and writing skills are the capital needed to be able to learn other knowledge or sciences. One effort to improve students' initial reading and writing skills and reading interest is to improve the quality of learning. Starting from the preparation and implementation stages of learning. This research used descriptive qualitative with a case study method, which was carried out in lower grades at three schools, namely, SDN 1 Karangkemiri, SDN 3 Kandangwangi, and SDN Gumingsir. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and document study. Based on the results of research, teachers in preparation are still not optimal, the lesson plans prepared are not complete. In implementing the lesson the teacher missed several parts. The methods, media and learning resources used are also limited. This makes students experience difficulty in reading. This also causes students' low interest in reading.
