This research was conducted to improve initial reading ability through letter cards
for 5-6 year olds at Paud Budi Mulia Sirampog Brebes. The low initial reading
ability of children can be caused by teachers still using monotonous learning
methods. The subjects of this research were 13 children from group B at Paud
Budi Mulia, Sirampog District. In the first cycle, generally the language skills of
children at PAUD Budi Mulia in reading were not optimal. Researchers teach
children through letter cards by saying the letters A-Z and arranging them. If the
child has started to recognize these letters, the child is taught to read, such as
composing his own name, there the child begins to be able to spell it in sentences
one by one and arrives at the second cycle. Children have started to be able to
spell letters and arrange them so they can read well. The researcher used the CAR
methodology (Classroom Action Research) cycle 1 and cycle 2, the conclusion of
this research was that children's ability to recognize letters in cycles 1 to cycle 2
which was carried out for 2 days increased by 70%.
