Abstract

Background: Medication errors are still frequently encountered in Indonesia,
especially at the prescribing, transcription, dispensing and administration stages.
Medication errors have the potential to result in patients experiencing therapy
failure during the treatment process. Electronic prescriptions are considered capable
of minimizing the occurrence of medication errors compared to non-electronic
prescriptions, especially at the prescribing stage. Aim: To determine whether or not
there is a difference in the incidence of medication errors between electronic and
non-electronic prescriptions, as well as to determine the effectiveness of electronic
prescriptions in controlling medication errors at RSUI Mutiara Bunda. Method:
Quantitative analysis using the Chi-Square test statistical method aims to see
whether or not there is a difference in the incidence of medication errors between
electronic and non-electronic prescriptions at the prescribing, transcription,
dispensing and administration stages. Then, look for the Odds Ratio (OR) value
using a 2x2 table to determine the effectiveness of electronic prescribing in
minimizing the incidence of medication errors. Results: The prescribing stage
showed a P value of 0.000, the transcribing stage 0.081, the dispensing stage 0.316,
while the administration stage did not show statistical results. Meanwhile, the OR
value for each stage of medication error shows a number less than 1 (<1), namely
0.00, which means that the incidence of medication errors in electronic
prescriptions is potentially small. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in
the incidence of medication errors at the prescribing stage between electronic and
non-electronic prescriptions. Meanwhile, there is no significant difference in the
incidence of medication errors at the transcribing, dispensing and administration
stages between the two prescriptions. Electronic prescriptions are effective in
minimizing the occurrence of medication errors at RSUI Mutiara Bunda Brebes.
