Abstract

The study aimed to enhance the ability to recognize number symbols through loose part
media 4-5-year-old children at KB Aisyiyah Surya Melati. It employed
Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles, each consisting of three
meetings. The subjects of this study were ten children aged 4-5 years from KB
Aisyiyah Surya Melati Singasari, comprising five boys and five girls. Data
collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. The
problem-solving steps in this research consisted of four stages: planning,
implementation, observation, and reflection. The data analysis used in this study
was qualitative descriptive analysis. The analysis results in this study indicated a
significant improvement in the ability to recognize number symbols. In the initial
study, out of 10 children, two children (20%) were Underdeveloped (UD), three
children (30%) were Beginning to Develop (BD), three children (30%) were
Developing as Expected (DE) and two children (20%) were Well Developed
(WD). In Cycle I, out of 10 children, one child (10%) was UD, two children
(20%) were BD, four children (40%) were DE, and three children (30%) were
Well Developed (WD). In Cycle II, out of 10 children, one child (10%) was BD,
five children (50%) were DE, and 4 children (40%) were WD. In other words,
there was an increase in the ability to recognize number symbols from the initial
study by 30%, in Cycle I by 70%, and in Cycle II by 90%.
