Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the role of teachers in shaping the character of
independence and the factors that may influence the formation of independence
character among students with disabilities at SD Negeri 1 Tanjung. This study
employed a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach. The research
subjects consisted of classroom teachers, students, and inclusion managers. Due to
the low levels of self-confidence, initiative, and responsibility among students with
disabilities, the selection of students utilizes purposive random sampling
techniques. Data analysis for this research involves qualitative descriptive methods
derived from observations, interviews, and document analysis. The research
findings indicated that the role of teachers as facilitators and motivators
significantly influences the formation of independence character among students
with disabilities at SD negeri 1 Tanjung. Therefore, guidance and direction from
both teachers and parents are necessary for character formation, utilizing various
methods to engage students with disabilities and prevent boredom. The research
identified several factors affecting the formation of independence character,
including the mood of the students, feelings of embarrassment, lack of selfconfidence,
and environmental influences.
