Abstract

The background of this research is to understand the social development
impacts arising from the usage of gadgets among young children. The aim of
this study is to describe the impacts of gadget usage on the social development
of young children. The research method employed is a qualitative approach
using a phenomenological design, where the researcher conducts in-depth
interviews to explore the experiences of each individual within the research,
ensuring that no information is left unexplored, and factual data is obtained.
Based on the discussions previously presented, it can be concluded that
gadgets can be used by anyone, including young children. The usage of
gadgets among young children is for playing games (ranging from educational
games to those that are entertaining for children) and watching children's
animations. Parents permit their children to use gadgets within designated
time limits. Several factors contribute to children using gadgets, as revealed
through interviews. These factors include peer influence, families not enforcing
parental boundaries on gadget usage, and the provision of rewards for
children's achievements. The impact of gadget usage on children's social
development emerging from this research indicates that children's emotional
stability remains relatively steady, and they exhibit positive social
personalities. This is attributed to the role of parents in supervising their
children's gadget usage, either by direct supervision or through the use of
applications.
