Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of comparative figures of speech found in the anthology of fairy tale poems from hometown PBSI 2019 Student’s Work at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. This qualitative descriptive study utilized excerpts from poems containing various types of comparative figures of speech. Out of 10 types of comparative figures of speech, the researcher identified 4 types: there were 35 instances of personification, 3 metaphors, 8 similes, and 21 hyperboles within the anthology. Data collection was conducted through note-taking, while data analysis involved identification, clarification, analysis, and description of the types of comparative figures of speech present in the anthology of fairy tale poems from hometown. The research findings indicate 67 words containing various types of comparative figures of speech, including words like scented, wounded, recklessly, brave, singing, piercing, following, knocking, breaking, performing, whispering, destroying, speaking, burning, carving, slicing, embracing, dancing, dividing, welcoming, speaking, painting, leaning, coming, angry, shouting, sweeping, counting, friendly, calling, plunging, embracing, village flowers, heartache, carcass, dust, death shield, goddess, king's daughter, palace princess, gemstone, ornaments, rolling and rumbling, piercing into crevices, shattered into pieces, transcendently clear, shapelessly shattered, painfully slicing, unrivaled, giant, freezing, shouts, joyfully conversing, twisting, destroying, striking, tearing, mighty sorcerer, arrogant, abundant in everything, dense black, like gemstones, completely dry, and hard-hearted
