This research aims to describe the connotative meanings in the dialogues of the
Laut Tengah novel by Berliana Kimberly. The analysis employs semantic theory, and the
method utilized is descriptive with qualitative data. The research process includes three
stages: data preparation, data analysis, and presentation of the analysis results. Data
preparation involves observation and note-taking, while data analysis includes data
collection through categorization, analysis, and drawing conclusions. The presentation of
analysis results utilizes both formal and informal methods.
From the research analysis, it can be concluded that there are 7 connotation
variations found, including subtle connotation 4 words, higher connotation 8 words, polite
connotation 5 words, unfavorable connotation 2 words, unpleasant connotation 2 words,
rough connotation 8 words, and impolite connotation 3 words. The overall number of
connotative meanings in the Laut Tengah novel by Berliana Kimberly is 32 words. The
connotative meanings found in the novel include subtle, higher, polite, unfavorable,
unpleasant, rough, and impolite connotations.
