Abstract
Background: Self-medication is a community action to treat minor illnesses by
self-medicating. If the practice of self-medication is carried out incorrectly, it can
have negative impacts that have the potential to harm the body's health.
Knowledge plays an important role as a source of supporting information when
carrying out self-medication. One disease that commonly attacks the productive
age range is gastritis. This research aims to determine the relationship between
knowledge, attitudes and gastritis self-medication behavior in students. Method:
This research is an observational analysis with a cross-sectional approach,
involving 100 respondents, and was carried out in March-October 2023. Data
analysis used the SPSS version 25 application. The results showed that 86% of
health students had good knowledge, while 14% were in the sufficient category.
Of non-health students, 66% had good knowledge and 34% had sufficient
knowledge. Attitudes towards self-medication for gastritis among health students
in Cilacap Regency showed that 38% had a positive attitude and 62% had a
negative attitude, while among non-health students, 54% had a positive attitude
and 46% had a negative attitude. Behavior related to gastritis self-medication
among health students in Cilacap Regency showed that 36% behaved well and
64% behaved adequately, while for non-health students, 54% behaved well and
46% behaved adequately. Conclusion: there is no significant relationship between
the level of knowledge and attitude, the relationship between the two variables
shows a very weak relationship. However, there is a significant relationship
between knowledge and gastritis self-medication behavior in students. The
relationship between the two variables shows a moderate and unidirectional
relationship. Apart from that, there is a significant relationship between attitudes
and gastritis self-medication behavior among students in Cilacap Regency. The
close relationship between the two variables shows a very weak and unidirectional
relationship. The factor that most influences self-medication for gastritis is
behavior.
