This research is motivated by the researcher's desire to raise and analyze the
discourse on nationalism and religious values in the novel "Kupilih Jalan Gerilya"
as the research object. The novel "Kupilih Jalan Gerilya" elevates, reconstructs, and
represents the reality of the life of the Commander-in-Chief General Soedirman,
which is filled with good nationalism and religious values to be inculcated to
elementary school students as the nation's young generation. The reconstruction and
representation of nationalism and religious values in the novel "Kupilih Jalan
Gerilya" is analyzed through Gamson and Modigliani's framing model analysis in
the form of a central frame or central idea, which is supported by framing devices
consisting of (metaphors, catchphrases, exemplars, depictions, and visual images)
and reasoning devices which consist of (roots, appeals to principle, and
consequences). The study results show that the value of nationalism is present
through all channels in the framing devices and reasoning devices used based on
the Gamson and Modigliani framing analysis model. The reconstruction of the
value of religious exists through all the elements in the framing tools and the
reasoning tools used in this study are based on Gamson and Modigliani's framing
analysis model. The value of nationalism in the novel "Kupilih Jalan Gerilya" was
successfully represented beautifully through the language in the existing narrative
text and also clearly illustrated the value of nationalism through the life of General
Soedirman, who became the main character in the novel entitled "Kupilih Jalan
Gerilya" from childhood to death. Religious values in the novel "Kupilih Jalan
Gerilya" are successfully represented well through the language in the existing
narrative text and also clearly describe religious values through the life of the figure
of General Soedirman, who is the main character in the novel "Kupilih Jalan
Gerilya" from childhood to death. It is assumed that the novel "Kupilih Jalan
Gerilya" can strengthen the nationalism and religious character of elementary
school students by reading the novel for grades 5 and 6, who can digest
understanding well. In contrast, in grades 1 – 4, it can be done by the teacher giving
stories to the students by using sentences that contain nationalism and religious
values as reconstructed in this study through the Gamson and Modigliani framing
analysis model.
