Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and functions of assertive illocutionary
speech acts in the YouTube Podcast Episode "Kurikulum Merdeka" uploaded in
August 2022. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method.
The data in this study are utterances containing forms and functions of assertive
illocutionary speech acts in the said podcast episode. The primary data source is the
podcast episode itself. The research process consists of three stages: data provision,
analysis, and presentation. Data provision employs the observation method and notetaking
technique. Data analysis is carried out using the distribution method and
matching method. The substitution technique is used in the distribution method while
the sorting determinant element technique (PUP) is applied in the matching method.
Data is presented using an informal method. The research results found 62 utterance
data containing forms and functions of assertive illocutionary speech acts. The forms
comprise 12 news utterances, 16 question utterances, and 4 command utterances.
Meanwhile, the functions include 8 stating utterances, 10 informing utterances, 2
suggesting utterances, 5 boasting utterances, and 5 demanding utterances. Among the
three forms, the most frequently used form is the question, while the least used is the
command. Among the five functions, the most frequently used is the informing
function, and the least used is the suggesting function.
