Abstract
Sixth semester students of the English education study program at the Universitas
Muhammadiyah Purwokerto who should be able to detect idioms in a text, it turns
out that most students still have difficulty detecting and translating texts that
contain English idioms into Indonesian, therefore this study aims to analyze type
of translation errors and find out the most errors in the idiom words presented.
This research was conducted at Muhammadiyah University in sixth semester
students totaling 24 students who had taken Indonesian-English translation
courses and English-Indonesian translation courses. respondents as data to
examine errors that occur in the results of the respondent's translation test. The
test results belonging to the respondents were analyzed for the types of errors
based on Caroline Kness's theory of thirteen types of translation errors. The
results of the researcher's analysis prove that the most errors are in misstranslation
or with code A5 as much as 91.27% and in omission or with code A1 as much as
0.30% then the word that has the most errors is the word "Before you can say Jack
Robinson". From these data it can be concluded that Out of the thirteen types
there are two types of translation errors made by the respondents, namely the
omission (A1) and mistranslation (A5). Details of the analysis can be seen in
chapter four. Of the two types, mistranslation (91.27%) is the most dominant
translation error made by the respondents.
