Abstract

Pomelo citrus contains lycopene, flavonoids, provitamin A, vitamin C,
pectin, vitamins B1 and B2, folic acid, sugars, proteins, fats, carbohydrates,
retinol, calcium, and phosphorus. Plant propagation can be achieved through
stem cuttings. One of the challenges in this process is the slow root formation.
This research aims to determine the effect of natural plant growth stimulants
(ZPT) on the success of pomelo stem cuttings, to understand the effect of
growing media on the success of pomelo stem cuttings, and to explore the
interaction between natural ZPT and growing media on the success of pomelo
stem cuttings. The method employed was a field experiment using a 2-factor
factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD). Factor 1 involved the application
of natural ZPT (Z), with Z1 = shallot extract, Z2 = coconut water, and Z3 =
aloe vera extract. Factor 2 pertained to the composition of the growing media
(P), which included P1 = soil, sand, and rice husk charcoal (2:1:1), P2 =
(1:2:1), and P3 = (1:1:2). Each treatment was repeated three times. Each
treatment unit comprised seven plants, resulting in 189 plant cuttings. The
data were analyzed using ANOVA at a significance level of 5%, followed by
DMRT tests at the 5% level using STAR 2.01 software. The research
concludes that the best treatment among the natural ZPTs is shallot extract
for variables: shoot length, number of shoots, number of leaves, number of
roots, and root length. The best-growing media treatment is a composition of
soil, sand, and rice husk charcoal (1:1:2) for variables such as the number of
shoots, number of leaves, and the percentage of cuttings with shoots. The best
combination is Z3P3 for variables such as shoot length, number of shoots,
number of leaves, and number of roots, whereas, for the number of roots, root
length, and the percentage of cuttings with shoots, Z1P1 is the most effective
combination.
