Becoming a Prominent Author in Michelle Kadarusman’s Girl of the Southern

The main issue of this research was Nia’s dream to become a prominent author.
To achieve her dream, Nia experienced many difficulties in her life. The purpose
of this study was to analyze the process of seeking pleasure and satisfaction in
striving to become a prominent author found in the main character Nia, reflected
in Michelle Kadarusman's novel Girl of the Southern Sea. This research uses
qualitative descriptive methods because this research analyzes non-numerical
data.
This research uses the theory of psychoanalytic analysis by Sigmund Freud to
analyze the pleasure principle in Nia. Nia wants to become a prominent author
however, the circumstances experienced by Nia make Nia unable to achieve her
dream. Based on Maslow's theory of needs, Nia's dream was also an attempt to
achieve the highest satisfaction or self-actualization.
