Abstract
Requesting a Thesis report is a mandatory assignment for all students. Thesis report means an educational curriculum that must be taken by all students as a mandatory activity and a graduation requirement. The thesis data entered consists of name, name, department, report title, supervisor's name, and so on. Each student must fill in the data in the data entry/edit form, then the form is printed and given to the TU of the Department. The process of entering data is what system errors still occur for accessing mobile devices. This system error is very disturbing for users who have to enter or edit data if they only have a cellphone as the only medium for accessing the UMP thesis information system. Therefore, it is hoped that the system update will be able to run well and be effective for users. This study aims to redesign or develop the user interface and user experience of UMP SIM-Thesis users based on user needs and convenience. This study used a quantitative approach by means of interviews and usability tests on 100 active students and alumni of the Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto. The usability factor analyzed is based on effectiveness (success rate) and user satisfaction (System Usability Scale). The user interface design method adopted is the Five Planes Method which consists of five stages, namely, the strategy plane to determine product objectives, user needs, and personas. Then, the scope plane stages to define functionality and content and describe user scenarios. Then, the structure plane stage is carried out with the aim of determining the flow of users & information architecture. Next, the skeleton plane stage is making a wireframe, and the surface plane stage is proposing a design in the form of a prototype. The results of the research are in the form of alternative designs and can be used as recommendations for the UMP SIM-Thesis Site designs that are more user-friendly than the initial design.
