Abstract
A speech act is a speech in which there is an action; by saying something, the
speaker also does something. The speech conveyed by the speaker has a goal to be
achieved by the speech partner. Therefore, illocutionary speech acts have the same
description based on the meaning of speech acts. This speech act serves to convey or
inform something, and it can also do something. A directive speech act is a speech
act performed as the expression of the speaker's attitude to the action to be
performed on the speech partner. Directive speech acts in the teaching and learning
process are a form of using a variety of directive speech acts. This study aims to
describe the types of teachers' directive speech acts obtained during the teaching and
learning process for an eleventh grade at SMK Muhammadiyah Sampang. This was
qualitative descriptive research, while the method used to provide this data was
observing, recording, and noting. The Observation non participatory method (SBLC)
was used; the researcher was not directly involved in the speech and only acted as
an observer, a listener in the speech event. From the data findings during the
research process, as many as six types of teachers' directive illocutionary speech
acts were found during the teaching and learning process for eleventh-grade
students in Indonesian language subjects at SMK Muhammadiyah Sampang. The
data found are requests (asking, praying, inviting), questions, orders (commanding,
demanding, directing), prohibitions, giving permission, and advice.
