This study aimed to determine the process of forming slang words in communication among characters in the movie Bebas by Riri Riza which was studied using linguistic studies. A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this research. The data used in this study was qualitative data in the form of verbal words from the characters of Vina, Kris, Jessica, Gina, Jojo, Suci, Lila, Andra, and Jaka. The method used is observation. The observation method was done by observing the use of slang in communication among characters in the movie Bebas by Riri Riza. The researcher used note-taking techniques to obtain data to be analyzed. In the data analysis technique, lhe researcher used the comparative method. Based on the results of the study, it was found 60 data on the use of various slang, ranging from prokem, slang, a lay, and vulgar. In the phonological word formation in terms of sound classification, 18 data were found, each of them underwent 5 word-formation processes. The process of word-formation phonologically in terms of suprasegmental elements was 11 data, each data experienced the formation of tone and interlude. Then, the process of wordformation morphologically was 24 data, each data underwent word formation by affixation, reduplication, and compounding. In the study of syntax based on sentence intonation, 6 data were found, each data had sentence intonation in the form of imperative sentences and interrogative sentences with high and low tones. The process of word formation based on the type of meaning and function of slang also found 30 data.
