Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Project Citizen learning model on improving civic skills of students in SMP Negeri 1 Paguyangan (Public Junior High School 1 of Paguyangan). The researcher used a quantitative research approach with an experimental research method with a nonequivalent control group design. The population sample consisted of 32 students from grade VIII B as the experimental group and other 32 students from grade VIII C as the control group. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The data analysis used descriptive statistical analysis, normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test. Based on the research results, the difference between the experimental and control groups was indicated by the percentage of pretest scores for the experimental group at 47% and for the control group at 38%, and the posttest scores for the experimental group at 81% and for the control group at 69%. The paired sample t-test showed a significance score of 0.000 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that learning in the experimental group using the project-based learning model has a more significant effect on improving the civic skills of students compared to learning in the control group.
