Background: Acne is an inflammation accompanied by blockage of the ducts of the
skin and hair oil glands (pilosebaceous ducts). White pepper essential oil contains
sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes such as 16.0% ~-caryophyllene, 12.6% sabinene,
11.9% limonene and 9.8% torreyol which have antibacterial activity so that they
have potential as anti-acne. This activity causes white pepper essential oil to have the
potential to be developed into various forms of anti-acne preparations, one of which
is emulgel. Methods: This study uses a Literature Review, which is a systematic,
explicit, and reproducible method to identify, evaluate and synthesize research works
and ideas that have been produced by researchers and practitioners. Results: Based
on the results of research and literature review studies, emulgel formulas that may be
used are the essential oil composition of white pepper (oil phase), surfactants,
cosurfactants, methylparaben, carbopol 940, Triethanolamine (TEA) and aquadest.
And to optimize the formula using the software Design Expert method Simplex
Lattice Design (SLD). Conclusion: White pepper essential oil has moderate to strong
activity as anti bacterial acne (S.aureus). Optimization of the Emulgel Formula from
White Pepper Essential Oil uses the software Design Expert method Simplex Lattice
Design (SLD).
