Abstract

Okra plants (Abelmoschus esculentus), also known as kacang bendi or lady's fingers, are native vegetables from Africa. One way to control weeds in okra plants is by using natural herbicides made from cogon grass, bitter bush, yellow camphorweed, and crabgrass. This study aims to determine the effect of cogon grass, bitter bush, yellow camphorweed, and crabgrass extracts in inhibiting weed growth and their effect on the growth and yield of okra plants. The research design used was a Completely Randomized Design consisting of a single factor with 10 levels, namely P0 (no weeding and no natural herbicide), P1 (750g cogon grass extract/liter), P2 (1.5kg cogon grass extract/liter), P3 (750g bitter bush extract/liter), P4 (1.5kg bitter bush extract/liter), P5 (750g yellow camphorweed extract/liter), P6 (1.5kg yellow camphorweed extract/liter), P7 (750g crabgrass extract/liter), P8 (1.5kg crabgrass extract/liter), and P9 (continuous weeding (weed-free) without natural herbicides). Each treatment consisted of 3 replications. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, number of fruits, fresh fruit weight, dry fruit weight, weed cover percentage, weed identification, fresh weed weight, dry weed weight, fresh okra plant weight, dry okra plant weight, and competition value. The results showed that the treatment with 750g yellow camphorweed extract/liter was effective in controlling weed cover percentage.
