Abstract
This study aimed to describe the ability of mathematical literacy and the intensity of using gadgets for students of SMP Negeri 3 Purwokerto through circle test. The subjects were the students of grade VIII B selected by purposive sampling technique. They were grouped into 3 categories: high achievement students, medium achievement students, and low achievements students with 3 students each. The analysis technique used qualitative research methods which included data education, data presentation, and conclusion. The data were collected through a test of mathematical literacy, questionnaire intensity of using gadgets, interviews, and documentation. The result revealed that high achievement students could formulate, apply and interpet, and the low intensity of using gadgets for playing games, social media, and other however, they mostly utilized the gadget for learning. The medium achievement students were able to formulate problems, less able to apply and able to interpet, and high intensity of using gadgets both for games, social media, and others and also in the learning. Low achievements students could formulate, but they were less able to implement and interpet, and high intensity of using gadgets for games, social media, and others than in the learning.
