The study aimed to describe the inner conflicts experienced by the main
characters. The approach was literary psychology based on Kurt Lewin’s theory. The
research method was descriptive qualitative. The date were obtained from sentences,
fragments or whole paragraphs which support the focus of the study. Data collection
techniques were reading and noting techniques. The validity of the data implemented
triangulation theory. Data analysis techniques covered selecting, sorting, and
grouping, examining of the data which were relevant to the study, and making
conclusions. The findings were the inner conflict experienced by the main characters
in Catatan Sang Murabbi novel by Arini Hidajati. The inner conflcts experienced by
Latifah’s characters presented conflicts of approach-approach, avoidance-avoidance,
and approach-avoidance. Latifah conflict was choices discrepancy with the wishes,
uncertainty dealing with problems, and expectations discrepancy with reality. The
most prominent inner conflict in Latifah character was the approach-approach and
approach-avoidance inner conflict.
