Abstract

Teenagers can interact more quickly because of the developing social media. Teenagers commonly use social media to share personal information with others, publish images of themselves with the opposite sex, collaborate to create movies, and even open up about their life. Therefore, this study aims to provide an overview of adolescents' self-disclosure using social media. A descriptive quantitative research method was used. The Slovin method was used to calculate and determine the sample in this study, which consisted of 160 respondents from ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Purwokerto. This study employed a self disclosure scale to collect data (Cronbach's alpha = 0.878). The findings of this study revealed that there were 4 adolescents with very low self-disclosure or 2.5%; 44 adolescents with low intensity, or 27.5%; 68 adolescents with moderate intensity, or 42.5%; 33 adolescents with high intensity, or 20.6%, and 11 adolescents with very high intensity, or 6.9%. The study's findings on self-disclosure in teenagers in grade 9 at SMP Negeri 5 Purwokerto found that they utilize social media with a moderate intensity, not a high or low intensity, with the largest sample size being 68 teenagers or 42.5% of the total respondents.
