Abstract

This research aims to prove the effectiveness of music on students’ listening skill with a comparison between using song and poem to find which class is more significant result. The research held on a Vocational High School in Purbalingga and consisted with 2 class, X TKJ 1 as an experimental class (with music) and X TAV as control class (without music), also the total of sample is 16 students each classroom. Research method used in this research is quasi-experimental research, while the data is collected through Pre and Post test, and those tests was used to find the final verdict. The pre-test and post-test also used 10 multiple choices with 5 options, consisted of 4 answers false and only 1 answer is correct. The mean score is taken as the consideration for the verdict, the result of pre-test on experimental class is 63.75 and the class-controlled is 62.5 also both of it got “Good” predicate. While the post-test is 75 for experimental class and 66.87, the distinction between the experimental and class-controlled is very significant, the gap is 11.25. The conclusion of this research is that music is effective on students’ listening skill because the verdict is the experimental class score increased significantly.
