Abstract
Background: Technological developments have led to the emergence of various types of cosmetics containing harmful chemicals, including BHT and Phthalates. BHT is a synthetic antioxidant that can cause hormonal disturbances and liver damage. Cosmetics made from natural ingredients are considered safer, have good effectiveness for health and are more environmentally friendly. Tomatoes contain antioxidant compounds that have the potential to ward off free radicals and facial moisturizing cream is one of the most widely used products. Then a vanishing cream preparation of tomato fruit extract was made to overcome this problem.
Objective: To find out whether tomato fruit extract can be formulated into vanishing cream preparations, to determine free radical scavenging activity, and physical stability of tomato fruit extract vanishing cream preparations.
Method: Cream physical evaluation test, antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method, and stability test using the accelerated stability method. Cetyl alcohol variations were used to see the effect on antioxidant activity
Result: The results of the physical evaluation test showed that the pH, viscosity, and spreading power were in accordance with the predetermined range, while the results of adhesion were not suitable. The results of the antioxidant activity test showed that tomato fruit extract, vanishing cream formulations 1, 2, and 3 had an IC50 value of 12.69; 46.37; 52.59; and 58.72 ppm. Stability test results with freeze-thaw cycling and accelerated using climatic showed stable results after storage
Conclusion: From the results obtained it can be concluded that tomato fruit can be formulated for vanishing cream. Vanishing cream that has been made has antioxidant activity and is stable in storage
