The research consists of several problem formulations: (1) What is the history of Cihonje Village, Gumelar district of Banyumas Regency (2) What is the history of gold mining in the village. ( 3) The impact of gold mining on the socio-economic life of the village community. The method used was historical research which consisting of four steps, including: heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. The sources used were primary and secondary sources. Primary sources consisted of official letters and photographs documenting gold mining activities in Cihonje village. while secondary sources consisted of interviews with landowners and gold miners in the village.
The results of the study show that (1) the gold mining began to develop in 2006. It is one of the livelihoods carried out by many local residents. (2) The beginning of gold mining was in 2006 which then experienced development. The gold mining experienced its heyday in the 2006-2016 period, during which time the income generated by miners and landowners could reach tens of millions in one week, while in 2017-2021 it tended to decline. This decline was influenced by several factors, one of which was the depth of the mining pit. This led to the bankruptcy and closure of several mining areas. (3) The gold mining in Cihonje village has an impact on the lives of the surrounding community, both positive and negative impacts. The positive impact felt by the local community is in the social and economic fields, while the negative impact is on environmental sustainability.
