History is a mandatory subject for students in senior high school. One material in the subject is Five Principles (or Pancasila). Pancasila is the view of life and the ideology of the Republic of Indonesia. Although there were changes in the content and the order of the principles in several stages during the formulation of Pancasila in 1945, June 1 is commemorated as ‘the birthday of Pancasila', precisely when Soekarno delivered his speech on the basis of the Indonesian state. This research was conducted in order to make teachers and students find out how the history of the birth of Pancasila was narrated very differently in History textbooks using School-based Curriculum (or KTSP) introduced in 2006 and that using Curriculum 2013. This research also aimed to convey clearly the process of the birth of Pancasila and the figures related to Pancasila as well as the process of ratifying it as the basis of Indonesia. Historical research method which included heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography was employed in this study.
