Abstract

Background: Corticosteroids are drugs containing steroid hormones used as immunosuppressants and anti-inflammatory. This function causes the prevalence of its use to be relatively high. Its high use and unknown rationality can cause side effects. Objective: This study aims to evaluate, determine the pattern of drug use and effectiveness of corticosteroids on patients at Puskesmas Mandiraja 2. Methods: This research is a descriptive observational study. The data were collected prospectively using medical records and patient interviews with pretest and posttest systems. The research subjects were all patients who received oral corticosteroid drugs and meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research sample obtained was 131 patients. Results: The results obtained were the pattern of use of corticosteroids, dexamethasone 31.30%, prednisone 45.80%, and methylprednisolone 22.90%, with the most commonly treated disease was inflammation. The evaluation of the quality of drug use is 100% on the proper indication, patient, drug, route of administration, and dose. The clinical outcomes obtained were 85 patients' improvement in symptoms, and 46 patients recovered. Conclusion: The use of oral corticosteroids is rational and has good effectiveness.
