This research was a research that developed a short story writing teaching
material as a character builder based on the anthology "Kidung Pelangi Sigaji"
for ninth graders of junior high school. This study had the objectives to: (1)
describe the need for short story writing teaching materials as character builders
based on the short story anthology "Kidung Pelangi Sigaji" according to the
perceptions of students and teachers and (2) explain the results of validation tests
and improvements to prototypes of short story writing teaching materials and
character education based on the short story anthology "Kidung Pelangi Sigaji"
for ninth graders of junior high school. This study used the Research and
Development (R&D) level 1 method with research stages including: (1) Potential
and Problems, (2) Literature Study and Information Gathering, (3) Product
Design, (4) Design Validation, (5) Tested Design. The results of this study were
(1) generating the needs of students and teachers for teaching materials,
including complete material in learning 1 and learning 2, both chapters contain a
table of contents, learning objectives, learning activities (materials, structure and
language), training, summaries, reflections, assessment rubric, evaluation,
glossary, bibliography, and synopsis; (2) based on teacher and expert assessment,
the level of validation and improvement of product prototypes from aspects of
material presentation, aspects of material content, language and readability
aspects and graphic aspects obtained an average score of 4.65 and includedvery
good category. While for the expert assessment of the aspect of presentation of the
material, the aspect of the content of the material and the aspect of the graphics
obtained a score of 4.21 and included in the very good category. From this
conclusion, the teaching material for writing short stories as a character builder
based on the anthology 'Kidung Pelangi Sigaji' for ninth graders of junior high
school was very feasible and satisfying as an alternative to learning to write short
stories for ninth graders of junior high school.
