Abstract

The pandemic COVID-19 brings a change to the teaching and learning activities into an online learning which led to the emergence of many difficulties that teachers faced. This research aimed to find out teachers' difficulties in teaching English online. The samples were taken from 6 English teachers at SMA 1 Comal. The data were collected using semi structured interview and audio recorder. The data were analyzing by using data reduction, data display, and verification. The results disclosed that teachers have difficulty in utilizing technology, material delivered not optimal, difficulty in motivating student, difficulty in giving assessment, difficulty in applying students’ character, difficulty with students’ weakened commitment, increasing teachers’ workload related to more administrative demands, difficulty with limited students’ facilities, and difficulty in having internet data and connection. The findings of this research is showing the picture of online learning condition on many difficulties teacher's experienced in teaching English online
