Abstract

Background : Free radicals can cause a degenerative disease, so to ward off free radicals it needs an antioxidant.One source of antioxidants is derived from plants. Mangkokan leaves (Polyscias scutellaria (Burm.f) Forsberg) is a plant that has the potential to be a natural antioxidant. The types of flavonoids contained in the leaves of mangkokan are flavonols (quercetin, kaempferol and mirisetin) and flavones (luteolin and apigenin) which are thought to have antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine phenolic levels, flavonoid levels and antioxidant activity of the mangkokan leaves. Method : Extraction using maceration, percolation and soccletation methods with 96% ethanol solvent and determination of antioxidant activity using FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power). Results : Test the antioxidant activity of the mangkokan leaf extract extract maceration method has very strong antioxidant activity with value IC50 32,592 μg/ml, the percolation method has very strong antioxidant activity with value IC50 amounting to 39,081 μg/ml, the soxletation method has strong antioxidant activity with value IC50 54,043 μg/ml. Conclusion : Mangkokan leaves ethanol extract of maceration and percolation methods provide very strong antioxidant activity with FRAP method, while the percolation method provides strong antioxidant activity with FRAP method.
