Abstract
Background: Chronic kidney disease is a pathophysiological condition with
multiple etiologies that causes a progressive deterioration in kidney function. This
study determined the antihypertensive medicine prescribing patterns, rationality,
effectiveness, and potential drug interactions ill hemodialysis
patients. Method: Retrospective samples were collected usmg a method of
purposive sampling and descriptive evaluation. Result: In 75 patients (92%),
amlodipine was the most often given antihypertensive medicine, followed by
furosemide in 58 patients (71 %) and valsartan in 44 patients (54%). In examining
the rationality of drug use, 50.5% of the correct drug was prescribed to the correct
patient, while 100% of the correct dose, indication, and mode of administration
were used. The drug's efficacy resulted in 23,5% of patients with the target ofblood
pressure therapy. In 67.75% of patients, possible medication interactions were
identified. Conclusion: Am1odipine, furosemide, and va1sartan are the most often
given antihypertensive medications. The basis for treatment, namely the
appropriate medicine, is flawed. Antihypertensive medication has proven
ineffective since the majority of hypertension is uncontrolled. Patients without
medication interactions made up 32.25 % of the total.
