Abstract

History learning conducted at SMK (Vocational High School) Wiworotomo Purwokerto in the new normal era used local history as the learning strategy. The importance of including local history in learning was to remind the students about the many histories in the local area. In studying local history, one can understand the values of heroism, the value of nationalism, patriotism, and also local wisdom. This study aimed to determine the preparation of teachers in teaching local history to students, how teachers implemented local history learning in the new normal era, and what the teacher's strategies are in optimizing students' understanding of local history. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative method with a case study approach: data collection techniques utilized non-participatory observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The subjects in this study included the vice principal of student affairs, history teachers of grade X, and students of grade X TPm 1 SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto. The data sources were obtained from informants, observations of historical learning activities, and learning media reviews. The researcher employed data triangulation. The sampling technique was random. The Data were analyzed through an interactive data analysis model; data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study results revealed that: (1) the teacher prepared lesson plans, set KD, and designed methods and media in preparation for learning. (2) The teacher implemented local history learning in the new normal era by assigning students to visit local history according to the material taught. (3) The strategy of assigning students to direct observation and local history learning was more optimum. In implementing local history learning at SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto, teachers can optimize learning by properly linking local history to establish an exciting class. Students at SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto prefer learning about local history because it increases knowledge and curiosity about learning local history.
