This study aims to describe the figure of speech based on the direct or indirect meaning used by play-by-play commentators in the 2021 Menpora (Minister of Youth and Sports) Cup tournament aired on April 11, 2021. This type of research was descriptive qualitative. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences of play-by-play commentators that contain elements of figurative language based on sentence structure, and the direct or indirect meaning is direct. Meanwhile, the data source in this study was the 2021 Menpora Cup soccer tournament broadcast on April 11, 2021. Listening and noting techniques were used to collect data. The validity of the data in this study used triangulation theory. This research used the data analysis technique of the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The results showed 2 out of 5 types of figurative language based on sentence structure: climax with 4 data and repetition (epizeukis, anaphora, and mesodiplosis) with 26 data. In addition, there are 6 out of 37 types of figurative language based on whether or not the meaning is direct, namely polysyndeton with 2 data, ellipsis with 2 data, correction with 1 data, hyperbole with 5 data, simile with 1 data, and metaphor with 8 data. Repetition is the most widely used figure of speech among other figures of speech.
