Abstract

This study aims to find out: 1) Are students' mathematical reasoning abilities who take advance organizer, learning better than students who take direct learning. 2) Are self-concept, students who take advance organizer learning better than students who take direct learning. The research design used is post-test only control design, and the population is all class VII students of Purwokerto State Middle School 4. Sampling was determined by cluster random sampling technique and obtained two sample classes namely class VII D as the experimental class and class VII B as the control class. To obtain research data using a mathematical reasoning ability test instrument and students' self-concept questionnaire.The test results of mathematical reasoning ability in the experimental class obtained an average value of 71.94 and control class 63.97. And the results of the students self concept questionnaire in the experimental class obtained an average score of 73.06 and control class 68.75. Hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test with a significance value or α = 0.05 obtained the conclusion that advance organizer learning influences the mathematical reasoning ability and self concept of junior high school students 4 Purwokerto.
