Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of communication apprehension on emotional well-being in kindergarten teachers in Purwokerto City, and to determine the effect of communication apprehension on emotional well-being in kindergarten teachers in Purwokerto City if moderated by self-compassion.
Data collection in this study used a communication apprehension scale (ɑ = 0.931), emotional well-being scale (ɑ = 0.912) and self-compassion scale (ɑ = 0.883). The sample in the study was 102 kindergarten teachers in Purwokerto. The analysis technique uses Moderated Regression Analysis with the SPSS 23 program calculation tool.
The results showed that the F value was 87,245, with t value of -9.340 with significance (p) = 0.000 (p <0.01) and Rsquare = 0.466, which means that communication apprehension has 46.6% negative and significant effect on emotional well-being. However, F value of 40,727 was obtained with t value of 0.956 with (p) = 0.342 (p>0.01) in the analysis of equation III so that self-compassion proved unable to be a moderator in the effect of communication apprehension on emotional well-being in kindergarten teachers. There are other findings in this study, self-compassion can act as an independent variable and affect emotional well-being by 41.8%. The variables of communication apprehension and self-compassion simultaneously or together have an effect of 55.1% on emotional well-being in kindergarten teachers in Purwokerto.
