The study aims to describe the use of affixes in short stories written by students
of grade IX at SMP Negeri 3 Sidareja in the 2019/2020 academic year. This is
descriptive qualitative research. The data source is in the form of short stories written
by the students. The stage of providing data applied documentation techniques with
the observation method, namely the observation of non-participatory (SBLC) and the
advanced technique, namely the note-taking. The stage of data analysis used the
distributional method with segmenting immediate constituent technique (BUL) and
other advanced techniques, namely the technique of substitution. The stage of
presenting the results of data analysis using formal and informal methods. The results
of this study amounted to 225 data covering the use of correct and incorrect affixes.
The use of correct affixes was 198 data. The use of prefixes was 93 data, infix was 1
data, suffix was 30 data, simulfix was 8 data, confix was 30 data, and affix
combination was 36 data. There were also 27 data that were not used correctly,
consisting of 11 data using incorrect prefixes, 1 data of incorrect of simulfix use, 2
data using incorrect confixes, and 13 data using incorrect affix combinations.
