Abstract

This research aimed to describe teachers’ strategy in instilling students’ krama inggil speaking skills on local language learning in SD Negeri 02 Bojongsari and to understand the inhibiting factors and the solutions. This was descriptive qualitative research that involved school principals, classroom teachers, and students on fourth and fifth grade in which three student was chosen from each class to be the participants. The date were collected using interviews and documentation. The results of this research showed that when teachers taught Javanese learning to instill the students krama inggil speaking skill, they used more then one learning strategy or method such as lecturing, demonstration, socio-drama, discussion, question, and answer, giving the assignment, group and individual method which were included in learning strategy of expository and inquiry. However, teachers had some obstacles such as less attention from parents in getting their children used to speak krama inggil, effects from the surrounding environment, and teachers’ limited time in teaching the language to their students at school. The solutions included asking the students to use krama inggil during Javanese learning process to communicate with the teacher and their classmates, doing a question and answer using krama inggil and asking the students to from a group dialogue/conversation using krama inggil in order to make them used to it, so those who could not speak the language could know and use the language better. The findings of this research showed that although the students in SD Negeri 02 Bojongsarihad been in fouth and fifth grade, there were still many of them who could not speak krama inggil to older people.
