Mathematical literacy skill is one of the important skills especially in the
context of mathematics which strongly related to daily problem-solving. This
research was conducted in SMP Negeri 3 Bawang with the subjects of students in
class VIII D and aimed to describe their mathematical literacy skills. The subjects
were divided into two categories: based on right-brain domination and based on
left-brain domination. Three samples were taken from each category to be the
respondents in this research. The data were collected using observation,
questionnaires, written tests, and documentation that were done online. The data
were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman model which included data
reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results showed that students in the
category of left-brain domination were able to show their mathematical literacy
skill to all components such as the component of communication, the component of
designing a strategy to solve a problem, the component of using symbols, formal
language, technique, and operation, also the component of comprehension and
argument. Meanwhile, the students in the category of right-brain domination
showed their mathematical literacy skill on one component which was the
component of using symbols, formal language, technique, and operation
