Abstract

This study aimed to describe the perceptions of Indonesian language teachers at
State Junior High Schools in Brebes sub-district towards the authentic assessment
of reading skills in terms of acceptance, understanding, and assessment. The type
of this research is quantitative research by using a descriptive approach. The
method used in this research was survey method. The population of this study was
all Indonesian teachers in State Junior High Schools in Brebes District with a total
of 8 State Junior High Schools. Then, the researcher took sample of 20 teachers
from the population. The data collection technique used percentation. The data
analysis technique used descriptive statistic techniques, in the form of descriptive
and frequency distribution. According to the results of the data analysis of
Indonesian teachers at State Junior High Schools in Brebes District, it was known
that 15% have a high perception of authentic assessment in reading learning.
There were 75% havea medium perception of authentic assessment, and it can be
seen that 10% have a low perception of authentic assessment in reading learning
in Indonesian subjects. The perceptions of Indonesian language teachers at State
Junior High Schools in Brebes sub-district towards the authentic assessment in
Indonesian learning can be seen through three indicators, namely acceptance,
understanding, and assessment indicators. After analyzing and categorizing, the
result showed that there was 15% of teachers had high acceptance, 70% of
teachers had medium acceptance, and 15% of teachers had low acceptance toward
authentic assessment information while 15% of teachers had a high
understanding, 65% of teachers had understanding moderate, 20% of teachers
have a low understanding of the authentic assessment, whereas 20% of teachers
have high ratings, 70% of teachers have medium assessments and10% of teachers
have low ratings in the authentic assessments. Therefore, it concluded that
Indonesian teachers' perceptions of authentic assessment in reading skills at State
Junior High Schools in Brebes District are good.
