Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out whether or not Information Gap
Activity was effective or not to teach speaking in first semester students of
Psychology Department Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in academic
2019/2020. This research used quasi experiment method in which the subject of
the research was the students of the first semester in Psychology Faculty,
Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The total members of students were 68
students which came from Psychology 1 D as control class and Psychology 1 E as
experimental class. Information Gap Activity was implemented in experimental
class. Test was used as the method of collecting the data and t-test was used to
analyze the data. The the result of t test was 2.615 and it is higher the t-table
(1.668 ). Therefore, it can be concluded that using Information Gap Activity in
teaching speaking was effective.
