Abstract

This study aims to find empirical evidence and to analyze the influence of competence, motivation and Islamic leadership on the performance of employees of Baitut Tamwil Muhammadiyah (BTM) in Central Java with work discipline as an intervening variable. This type of research is quantitative, with a population of all BTM employees in Central Java. The sample used was 100 respondents with purposive sampling technique. The sample size is calculated by ten times the endogenous (independent) variables in the model (Chin in Ghozali and Latan, 2015). The data used include primary data in the form of questionnaires and interviews, and secondary data in the form of literature studies, articles or journals. The questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. The study was conducted for two months. The hypothesis was tested using regression analysis Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS version 3 software. The results revealed that competence directly has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Islamic motivation and leadership do not have a significant effect on employee performance. Competence does not have a significant effect on work discipline, while Islamic motivation and leadership directly have a positive and significant effect on work discipline. Work discipline can mediate the influence of motivation on employee performance, but it cannot mediate the effect of competence and Islamic leadership on performance.
